Walt Disney’s great niece calls out Disney World’s closing night crowd

When Disney parks announced that Walt Disney World in Florida would close after Sunday March 15th as a precaution against the spread of the novel coronavirus, some people assumed the right thing to do would be to cancel their vacation, head home early, and obey the Center for Disease Control guidelines in avoiding large crowds.

Others did not. A tweet from parks blog site Walt Disney World News showed massive attendance at Disney World’s last performance of nighttime light show Happily Ever After, and at least one member of the Disney family can’t believe her eyes.

Abigail Disney, Walt Disney’s great niece and the granddaughter of company cofounder Roy O. Disney, retweeted Walt Disney World News’ image with a message that anyone reading coronavirus updates can understand: “Are you fucking kidding me??”

Abigail Disney, who is an Emmy-winning filmmaker in her own right, has previously been outspoken about her role in her grandfather and great uncle’s billion-dollar legacy. In 2019, she endorsed the concept of a wealth tax and bluntly told CNBC that any billionaire who opposes a high tax rate on their fortune is “kind of an idiot.”

Never one to mince words, that Abigail Disney.

The Disney parks closure goes into effect today and affects all parks worldwide as well as Disney cruise lines, which will not sail until the company decides to lift their ban.

If it seems amazing that it took making it impossible to visit Disney to get people to stop trying in the middle of a pandemic — just remember at least one literal Disney is just as stunned as you are.
