TikTok, Spotify, Tinder, and many other iOS apps are crashing again due to a Facebook issue

A number of popular apps and services including TikTok, Spotify, Pinterest, and Tinder are currently broken on iOS devices, with early reports suggesting Facebook is to blame.

There are widespread reports on social media of apps crashing whenever they’re launched on iPhones and iPads, and corresponding outage spikes on DownDetector.com. For some apps, like Spotify, it seems the problem can be fixed by disconnecting from Wi-Fi.

Although the exact cause of the outages isn’t yet confirmed, early reports suggest the problem is caused by Facebook’s SDK, which many apps use to manage user logins. Facebook said on its developer platform this morning that it was “aware [of] and investigating an increase in errors on the iOS SDK which is causing some apps to crash.” In a thread on GitHub posted around 7AM ET, numerous developers reported problems with their apps.

A similar problem involving the Facebook SDK occurred in May and affected dozens of apps. The problems were mostly fixed that same day.
